Story Artist - For Consideration
Job Summary:

Story Artists work closely with their Story Lead, Story Supervisor and a team of other story artists to translate a screenplay into a visual medium. Utilizing all elements of animated filmmaking - screenwriting, cinematography, editing, illustration, and animation - Story Artists develop, produce, and pitch imagery and boards to tell a film's story and execute the Director's vision.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Translate script pages, written descriptions, or verbal descriptions of a sequence as received from the Director or Story Supervisor
• Develop visuals from quick thumbnail sketches through to finished storyboard panels
• Pitch storyboards to the Director, Supervisor and other members of the Story team
• Perform background research to inform the story process
• Work to define staging, pacing and camera action
• Brainstorm inventive story ideas to solve story problems or inject emotion and humor
• Develop character personality and dramatic or comedic action
• Refine dialogue where needed
• Revise, edit, and modify drawings as needed to address Director's or Editorial notes
• Provide critical thinking and notes on the story as it develops
• Contribute to the culture of the Story Department by shaping and participating in department initiatives and activities
QUALIFICATIONS:
• 3-5 years' professional experience in feature film, television, comics, or games
• Feature Animation or Animated series experience a plus
• Enthusiasm for cinema, books, comics, or other modes of storytelling
• Ability to analyze scenes in a written format and translate to a visual medium
• Demonstrated ability to convey emotion, action, and character through drawing, and the ability to develop options and alternatives to story ideas
• Understanding of layout, design and strong draftsmanship
• Ability to draw loosely and gesturally, and with a willingness to be iterative and disposable with the drawings
• Must be open to direction and able to embrace change
• Organized and detail oriented, with the ability to work quickly and collaboratively
• A great attitude and strong work ethic
• Ability to produce digital storyboards with use of computer and tablet
