This is a Full Time Job
As the Rigging Lead you will be responsible for designing, creating and maintaining highly accurate and efficient rigs for high-end feature animation films, according to the technical guidelines of the rigging supervisor. In addition you will work closely with a variety of departments including; R&D, Art, Modelling, Layout and Animation to develop, implement, maintain and support character deformation.
Responsibilities
• Develops and maintains procedural rig components with a specific focus on deformation, using custom tools.
• Follows a brief to produce complex production-ready rig deformations.
• Works with Animators to aid with deformation rigs to provide a broad range of motion.
• Supports rigs as they move through the pipeline and provides additional deformation fixes as needed.
• Works closely with the Animators to provide and refine a full range of expressions and body movements needed to support a character's acting range in the film.
• Collaborates directly with Directors, Character Designers, Modelers and Animators to define and create the best deformation or animation rigs for a wide range of character styles and art directions.
• Leads the team providing them with support, guidance and instruction
• Makes sure all the assets follow the quality standards and artistic direction
• Achieves the deadlines.
• Contribute towards the artistic and professional growth of the team,
• Follow the Supervisor's guidance.
• Responsible for building body, facial and mechanical rig systems to be used by other departments, such as Crowds, Animation and Layout.
• Troubleshoots and fixes rig issues.
• Collects artistic feedback and fine-tunes rig behavior.
• Works within the pipeline and rigging standards.
• Keeps up on current artistic methodologies and on technology trends and tools that best suit the production and the company in the development of a stronger creative and technical environment.
• Deliver on time following Production quality standards.
• Prototype, develops and implements new techniques and processes to solve unique and technical character production challenges.
• Keeps up on current character technology trends and tools
• Develops and maintains procedural rig modules with a specific focus on deformation, using a Python Rigging API.
• Writes scripts in Python to facilitate workflow improvements.
• Brainstorms new techniques and ideas for user interfaces, deformation tools, and character-specific rigging solutions.
Requirements
• 6 years of professional experience in VFX or animation industries.
• At least 1 year of experience as Lead in the animation industry.
• Deformation proficiency demonstrated through past project work.
• Experience with both mechanical and/or organic type rigs with a preference in feature animation.
• Strong and production-proven knowledge of rigging and deformation using Maya.
• Solid knowledge in pipeline, processes, tools and techniques with a high-level understanding of industry standards, conventions, formats and common practices.
• Proven solid technical and visual skills, excellent attention to detail.
• An impressive reel demonstrating attention to facial surface detail, underlying facial anatomy, and credible and organic facial expressions.
• Deep understanding of anatomy and muscle dynamics.
• Good eye for aesthetics of body/face deformations.
• Advanced Python , GUI scripting and the ability to follow strict coding standards.
• Advanced English level.
• Spanish oral and written, is desirable.
