Job Title: Head of Global Publicity (Motion Picture Group) – Sony Pictures Entertainment
Location: Culver City, CA, Sony Pictures Studio Headquarters
Job Description: Sony Pictures Entertainment is looking for a seasoned and visionary leader to serve as the Head of Global Publicity. This pivotal role oversees publicity campaigns for the studio's films across both theatrical and home entertainment windows globally. The chosen candidate will be a strategic and creative professional with a deep understanding of the film industry and a proven track record in orchestrating publicity campaigns that engage audiences worldwide. This role will heavily interface with the Chairman and CEO, Sony Pictures Motion Picture Group as well as the global heads of marketing, and manage Sony Pictures' award season strategy, ensuring our titles and talent are prominent in the industry's most prestigious accolades.
Key Responsibilities:
• Strategically design and implement innovative publicity campaigns that effectively promote Sony Pictures' films across both theatrical and home entertainment windows globally.
• Represent the Global Publicity department in senior executive meetings, providing strategic insights and updates that drive decision-making at the highest level.
• Work closely with teams in markets around the world to support international publicity efforts, ensuring campaigns are culturally adapted and locally resonant while maintaining a consistent global brand message.
• Lead the development and execution of Sony Pictures' award season strategy, managing campaigns that heighten the visibility of our films for major industry awards and facilitate their journey through the competitive awards circuit.
• Serve as a key publicity figurehead for Sony Pictures, effectively communicating campaign strategies and achievements to internal executives and external partners.
• Lead and empower a substantial team of publicity professionals, driving initiatives that foster creativity, collaboration, and excellence in execution from initial release through to home entertainment distribution and awards recognition.
• Coordinate with filmmakers, talent, and creative teams to craft compelling narratives that resonate with audiences and enhance the visibility of films across all windows.
• Manage the orchestration of press events, premieres, and media engagements, ensuring a seamless transition of messaging from theatrical buzz to home entertainment promotion and through the awards season.
• Continuously analyze the film industry's competitive landscape to adapt and refine publicity strategies, ensuring Sony Pictures' titles stand out in both theatrical and home markets and during the awards season.
• Work in close partnership with marketing, distribution, and home entertainment teams to ensure a unified approach to film promotion, maximizing reach and impact throughout the entire lifecycle of a release, including awards campaigns.
• Stay abreast of evolving industry trends, audience viewing habits, and technological advancements to inform innovative publicity practices that cater to a changing media consumption landscape.
Qualifications:
• 20+ years of experience in film publicity leadership with a strong portfolio of successful campaigns spanning all types of theatrical releases.
• Exceptional leadership capabilities with a history of managing and nurturing a large, diverse team.
• Strategic and creative thinking skills, with an emphasis on delivering innovative publicity campaigns.
• Superior communication skills, capable of conveying complex strategies in a clear, persuasive manner.
• In-depth knowledge of the film industry, audience engagement strategies, and the competitive environment across both theatrical and home entertainment sectors, as well as the awards circuit.
• Established network of media contacts and solid relationships with industry influencers, talent, and creative partners.
• Demonstrated collaborative spirit, with a proven ability to work across various departments to create integrated and successful promotional efforts.
• Bachelor's degree in Public Relations, Communications, Marketing, or a related field; an advanced degree is advantageous.
