Scripted Development Intern, Sony Pictures TV (6 placement))

Do you have a strong creative or literary background with a passion for TV and Film?

Sony Pictures Television's Scripted Development Intern Placement is a 6-month entry-level training programme that provides exposure to how a major entertainment company operates on the global stage.

Running from July – December, during the internship, you will gain an insight into the inner workings of the scripted television business and the dynamics in the industry, participating in creative projects that will benefit you greatly as you embark upon your career.

You will support the Global Scripted Group, which sits centrally in SPT's International Production division. Based in London, the unit operates a global network of 20 wholly-owned or joint venture companies outside the US, covering Europe, Asia, Latin America and Australia, and includes UK-based Left Bank Pictures, Blueprint Television, Fable Pictures, Stolen Picture and Eleventh-Hour Films.

Projects assigned to you will include but are not limited to: script coverage, evaluating and summarizing pitch materials, viewing episodes and casting sessions for feedback, researching information, preparing distribution materials, assisting with production bibles, formatting and entering stage direction on scripts when needed and assisting with light administration work.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES INCLUDE

Coverage / Analysis:
• Assist in identifying English-language television drama to be produced in the EMEA region, learning about SPT International Production's global network of production companies in addition to third parties.
• Provide in-depth analysis/evaluation of written and video material submitted by agents/writers/producers including, but not limited to: concepts, treatments, scripts, and completed episodes by providing analysis as appropriate.

Development:
• Assist in the creation and development of pitch bibles, scripts and sizzle reels, learning how to deliver notes to writers and producers.
• Gain an insight into the international television business, from development to greenlight, production to distribution, and beyond.

Project Administration:
• Manage the creative submission log, documenting the flow and status of the material in review. Follow up on pending projects. Track all dates (when was the project pitched, when was the release form signed, when was the rejection letter sent, when was the material disposed of etc.) titles, authors and short descriptions of each. Liaise with a member of the Global Scripted Group to issue rejection/pass letters or follow up as appropriate.

Production:
• Review casting tapes and rough cuts/dailies of series in pre-production and production, providing notes when required.

Research:
• Track industry trends in the trades as well as working with SPE's Research Team on ad hoc research projects into specific genres or demographics of interest.
• Maintain and grow the Global Scripted Group's Talent Database, with an emphasis on UK and European writing talent, tracking recent credits and agent contact information.
• Review a wide variety of television shows, learning about dramatic structure, character development and what makes a successful international television series.

General Meetings Attendance:
• Attend staff meetings, group calls and special events including any screenings, taking minutes when appropriate. Participate in creative conference calls and/or meetings with writers, literary editors, production companies or television channels as needed.
• Opportunity to learn where SPT International Production sits in the wider Sony Group, which includes the US Studio (Motion Pictures and Television), Sony Music and Sony Playstation.

Administrative
• Light expenses and travel management.
• Act as the main point of contact for the office, taking calls and greeting guests at reception when required.

ABOUT YOU

Education:

• Ideally you will have a Bachelor's Degree or similar, relevant experience

Experience:
• Either previous experience in a similar role at a production company, broadcaster or studio

OR

Demonstrable passion for the industry (blogging/social media, writing portfolio, short films)

Knowledge of:
• Knowledge of critical story analysis and dramatic structure/character development
• An ambition to work in television or film in a creative capacity
• Some experience with production/development/creative writing or similar

Skill In:
• MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
• MAC and PC Proficient
• Research
• Strong language skills a plus (Spanish, Italian, Russian)
