Researcher, Jeopardy!
JEOPARDY!, America's Favorite Quiz Show™, is in its 38th season in syndication. With a weekly audience over 20 million viewers, JEOPARDY! is the top-rated quiz show on television. A Jeopardy! researcher is part of a team of fewer than 10 people, reporting to the co-Head Writers. The researchers are responsible for ensuring the accuracy of all on-air material. They use Internet sources, reference books, telephone interviews, and all other available methods for verifying that the clues in Jeopardy! shows are accurately formulated and are phrased so as to allow for only one correct response. They may be called upon for other related tasks such as looking for conflict within a set of games, verifying test questions, etcetera.
Core Responsibilities:
• Verify individual clues for accuracy and to make sure they are restricted to only one correct response
• Verify visual clues to make sure the image is correct
• Work with other researchers and with the head writers to reword clues that are problematic, or to make sure a new clue is found that works
• Assist show host with the pronunciation of clues.
Requirements:
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
• Passion and knowledge of Jeopardy! & an interest in being in a researcher type role
• Strong writing background and understanding of grammar and sentence structure
• Wide knowledge of academic, lifestyle, and pop culture subjects
• Ability to work as part of a team and accept critiques as an opportunity for growth
• Strong organizational skills
• Interpersonal skills to facilitate contact with information sources in other organizations
• Works well under high-pressure moments and keeps a calm attitude
