Title: Major League Strength & Conditioning Rehabilitation Specialist
Description: The Tampa Bay Rays are seeking a Major League Strength and Conditioning Rehabilitation Specialist. Sitting within the greater strength and conditioning team, this role will have a specific focus on the hands-on rehabilitation processes of Major League post-injured/post-operative athletes. This role operates on a 12-month schedule, including reporting to Port Charlotte, FL for spring training, daily work with the rehabilitation group for the Major League Team, potential travel to affiliates with rehab players or other players of organizational decision, and potential occasional in-season travel with Major League team.
Although this position will have ownership of specific rehab responsibilities, the individual will contribute to the greater strength and conditioning team and may participate outside of rehabs, as deemed necessary by the leadership of the Tampa Bay Rays.
Department: Major League Strength & Conditioning
Reporting Relationships: This role will report directly to the Major League Head Strength & Conditioning Coach and Major League Head Athletic Trainer
Responsibilities:
• Lead in the coordination, planning, and weight room/conditioning plans for post-injured and/or post-operative athletes
• Assist in the general administration and maintenance of the major league weight room and associated areas alongside the rest of the Strength & Conditioning team.
• Communicate effectively with the Major League Head Athletic Trainer, Head Strength Coach, Rays leadership, Major League field manager, as well as field staff
• Support the Head Major League Strength Coach in the administration of entrance and exit measurements of players, from Spring Training through the end of season
• Contribute to the growth and maintenance of relationships with players throughout the off-season and personal player strength coaches/trainers
• Assist in design and implementation of rehab-based strength training and conditioning programs for both in-season as well as off-season, individualized to the goals and limitations/restrictions of the athlete
• Provide education and utilize various technologies, in conjunction with the Director of Baseball Performance Science, that can assist in the measurement of rehab progress and return to play decisions
• Support communication and data collection/documentation under the direction of the Director of Baseball Performance Science
Qualifications:
• Bachelor's Degree in Exercise Science or a related field
• NSCA-CSCS; RSCC
• Current CPR/AED certifications
• Experience with sports science initiatives (workload monitoring, recovery, nutrition, sleep, etc.)
• Knowledge of hitting and pitching movements/skill acquisition
• Baseball related experience
• Strong desire for continuing education (FMS, SFMA, FRC, On Base University, Running Mechanics, Strength Progressions, etc.)
• A demonstrated high degree of professionalism and ability to maintain confidentiality
• Strong communication, teamwork, adaptability, and time and energy management
Location: Port Charlotte, FL with occasional travel required
