The Oklahoma City Thunder is looking for an energetic and organized entertainment specialist to join our team as our Mascot Coordinator! As the coordinator, you will act as the mascot handler at all home games, community events, and appearances. Beyond the excitement of game days, you'll manage office administrative tasks and serve as the key communicator between the team mascot, internal departments, and our valued clients-including sponsors, Fans, and Guests. In this pivotal role, you'll have the opportunity to be the on-site lead representative and solution specialist for the mascot program at events, communicating expertly and handling any changes or requests. You will represent the Thunder and Rumble brands, brand values, and be part of a team that is motivated by a shared passion for delivering outstanding experiences to our Fans.
In this role you will:
• Assist with planning and execution of game night and appearance logistics for team mascot including schedules, equipment, and props and communication with venues
• Serve as crowd control and handler for Rumble the Bison at all events, games, and appearances
• Keep mascot appearances on schedule and work on-court at home games to coordinate minute-by-minute details of mascot activations
• Lead and maintain all mascot equipment, including props, costumes, other inventory, and the Rumble Van, ensuring all are well organized, clean and proactively serviced
• Collect and submit all data gathered from mascot activities and participate in cross-functional planning and strategies
• Serve as point person with internal departments to coordinate mascot program schedules, promotional concepts, creative development, etc. to support a collaborative and comprehensive business strategy
• Schedule and supervise part-time game night mascot associate
• Participate in a weekly scheduling meeting to review all pending requests and ensure appropriate allocation of resources and plan promotions for scheduled activities
• Use CRM database to keep track of external communication regarding community requests and game day activities
• Lead interaction at public events to ensure the success of the appearance including participation in emcee duties as vital
• Seek new opportunities to improve the character profile and align with core business and brand principles
• Attend weekly department meetings and provide creative input to be used throughout the Events & Entertainment department (video, music, etc.)
• Serve as backup to primary mascot performer for charitable, promotional, and community appearances
• Occasionally travel domestically or internationally as needed for company-approved events
• Other duties as assigned
What you'll bring to the role:
• A four-year college degree or equivalent work or military experience is highly preferred
• Minimum two years' experience in marketing, event management, or a related field, with a focus on creating engaging experiences for audiences
• Diligent to details with outstanding abilities in both verbal and written communication
• Ability to take creative direction and be flexible when faced with changing priorities
• Resourceful with excellent decision-making abilities, adept at clear and swift thinking in fast-paced, time-sensitive environments
• Confident and concise speaking skills and ability to speak loudly over crowd noise
• Confident engaging with Fans of all ages, infant to senior, and interacting inclusively across all social or cultural demographics
• Collaboration and relationship-building talents and a consistently calm demeanor
• Bilingual in Spanish and English is a plus
Additional details:
Work schedule will include some office hours as well as evenings, weekends and holidays as required for game and event schedules and may include work on short-notice to support event changes. Work environment in- arena will include loud music and crowd noise, flashing and strobe lights; out-of-arena work may be in extreme temperatures including outdoor events during all seasons. Current passport or the ability to acquire one and a valid driver's license and clean driving record are required. Physical requirements of the position include the lifting 50 pounds or more, bending, twisting, running up and down stairs and driving. This is a full-time, non-exempt position reporting to the Senior Manager, Game Presentation and Entertainment.
