This is a Part Time Unpaid Internship
Premiere literary agency whose clients include: Jonathan Franzen, best-selling author of FREEDOM and THE CORRECTIONS, winner of 2001’s National Book Award in fiction; Tom Rachman, author of the New York Times bestseller THE IMPERFECTIONISTS; Sarah Shun-lien Bynum, one of The New Yorker’s best “20 under 40” fiction writers; William T. Vollmann, winner of the 2005 National Book Award in fiction; Harry S. Dent, author of the New York Times and Wall Street Journal business bestseller, THE ROARING 2000s. In 2002, Susan was named Entertainment Weekly's ''It Agent'' of the year.
Duties include reading submissions from potential clients, writing reader’s reports, proofreading proposals, clerical work (i.e. answering the phone, filing, sorting mail), and general office tasks. This is an excellent opportunity to learn about all aspects of publishing (how books are discovered, polished, sold, and brought to market).
Candidates should be motivated, well-organized, responsible, and have excellent communication skills. Some experience critically evaluating fiction and non-fiction work is necessary, as well as a love of books and a strong interest in the publishing business.
