About the Role & Program
Are your ready to dive into the multifaceted work global public policy, working alongside dedicated professionals who are leaders in their field to focused on ground breaking issues spanning Internet policy, environmental concerns, human rights, privacy, consumer protection, and child safety?
The Legal and Global Affairs Division's Global Public Policy Department is actively seeking a graduate public policy intern as a valuable addition to the Public Policy New Voices program (https://globally.org/ppnv)!
As an intern, you will dive into impactful challenges that shape our company's business, brands and connect with consumers! Your role extends beyond- contributing to the broader fabric of society, all while playing a crucial role in crafting compelling reporting that makes a difference. If selected for the role, you will report to the Director, Human Rights Policy.
What You Will Do
• Identify emerging business plans globally
• Develop internal and external policy positions, strategies, and analyses to influence the external environment and advance Disney's business priorities
• Work with business units and other internal partners on business strategies that impact public policy or require changes in public policy to be successful
• Support projects on business strategies and product plans which advance policy goals as well as emerging social, political, economic and public policy issues and trends that build business opportunities for Disney globally
• Find opportunities where Disney can meaningfully advance its policy agenda and recommend concrete strategies to address issues based on positions taken
• Work with the public affairs team, internal counsel and business leaders to identify relationships that need to be cultivated to implement these strategies successfully
Required Qualifications and Skills
• Demonstrated high level of integrity, thoroughness, flexibility, initiative and teamwork
• Excellent written and oral communication skills and interpersonal communication skills
• Excellent judgment and ability to handle sensitive and confidential information
• Strong analytical skills which can be used to provide succinct summaries and key takeaways
• Ability to efficiently balance multiple tasks and meet deadlines
• Ability to work on multiple subject areas and balance challenging priorities
• A curiosity about global public policy
• Basic understanding of key global policy issues, which could range from internet policy, human rights, consumer protection, child safety, and the environment
• Basic familiarity with multilateral forums including the UN and the OECD
• Basic understanding of legal, public affairs and government relations considerations in the policy process
• Some familiarity with the workings of NGOs, domestic and foreign governments, international organizations or industry groups
Education
• Pursuing a graduate public policy or related degree
Eligibility Requirements & Program Information
• Must be enrolled in an accredited college/university taking at least one class in the semester/quarter (spring/fall) prior to participation in the internship program OR must have graduated from a college/university within 6 months at time of application posting OR currently participating in a Disney College Program or Disney Professional Internship
• Must be at least 18 years of age
• Must possess unrestricted work authorization
Additional Information
• Current Public Policy New Voices Fellows applicants will be prioritized
• The approximate dates of this internship are May 2024 through August 2024
• Able to work 40 hrs per week, Monday through Friday, 9am - 6pm
• This is a remote position
