This role is considered remote, which means the employee will work remotely on an ongoing basis and will not have an assigned workspace at a Company designated location.
Job Summary:
The Walt Disney Studios is seeking a Story Analyst who will be an exceptional addition to the Story team. The ideal candidate is an avid reader, capable of quickly and succinctly synthesizing written material and providing thoughtful, well-written analysis and feedback within a fast-paced and constantly changing environment. Working across Disney Live Action, 20th Century Studios, and Searchlight Pictures, the Story Analyst reviews submissions, writing samples, and scripts in the development phase of production, for both theatrical and streaming films and episodic content.
This is an IATSE Local 700 position covered by a collective bargaining agreement.
Responsibilities:
• Review submissions (screenplays, manuscripts, published books, and other materials) to assess them as potential projects for the Studio.
• Review writing samples to evaluate their authors for consideration for development assignments.
• Review drafts of projects in development to give notes for improvement or to accomplish specified objectives.
• Compile research lists. For example, conduct research on titles in book series and outline characters, synopsis, etc. for exploration on use opportunities, or research library titles, by genre, for potential reboot/reimagining opportunities.
• Perform legal comparisons or development draft comparisons, as requested.
• Perform development draft comparisons for writers' credits per WGA rules.
Qualifications:
• Legal comparisons
• Demonstrated ability to thrive under time constraints and consistently meet deadlines
• Reading and covering a wide range of material and genres
• Strong reading comprehension and writing abilities
• Non-English language fluency (reading and writing) a plus
The pay rate for this role in California is $46.60 to $55.40 per hour, which follows the pay scale agreed upon in the Collective Bargaining Agreement. The base pay actually offered may vary depending on the candidate's geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience, among other factors.
