We are currently hiring for the position of:
EQUIPMENT OPERATOR, FESTIVAL LOGISTICS
Reporting to Logistics Coordinator, Festival Street & DPS, the Equipment Operator, Festival Logistics is in charge of the proper maintenance and operation of all Festival Village heavy equipment (Forklift, scissor lifts) as it pertains to the setup/strike and operations of Festival Street, David Pecaut Square, road closures / pedestrian management and red carpet operations. They will assist Partners on activation builds and adjustments as necessary, and will supervise production assistants to ensure any Festival builds are completed safely and efficiently
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Shall include but not be limited to:
• Execute logistical support plans for assigned projects and complete all tasks as per given specifications
• Attend production meetings, training and orientation sessions prior to onsite work as assigned
• Supervise casual labour in the production of Festival Village
• Maintain the safe operation of heavy equipment (including, but not limited to, forklifts of various designs and scissor lifts)
• Ensure that Equipment Operation is conducted safely, adheres to protocol and meets/exceeds industry standard safety guidelines
• Supervise production assistant activities, as required
• Monitor, respond and escalate safety, security and medical emergencies within Festival Village according to the escalation protocols
• Ensure the safe and careful handling of all owned and rented materials
• Assist with load-in, load-outs, deliveries
• Assist with set-up and strike of street closure
• Handle additional production requests related to Festival as required
• Deliver detailed post mortem notes and post-festival reporting on or before September 20th, 2024.
NOTE – this position may involve extended hours during Festival, September 5 - 15.
JOB GRADE & SALARY:
• Job Grade 1
• $45/hour
TARGET CONTRACT DATES:
• Monday, August 12, 2024 - Friday, September 27, 2024
WORK LOCATION:
• Office Location: 350 King Street West, Toronto, ON M5V 3X5
• Weekly in-office requirements:
• Minimum 2 days (November to May)
• Minimum 3 days (June to October)
• Festival Office Requirements: Full Time during Festival
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
• Must have Forklift and scissor lift training
• Must be at least 25 years old (due to rental car insurance agreements)
• Valid G license, and clean driving record
• Experience with indoor and outdoor event setups, builds and operations
• Previous festival, theater, or large event production experience is an asset
• Experience creating and coordinating production schedules
• Job will require some heavy lifting, comfortable lifting up to 50 lbs
• Experience working with heavy machinery during event setup/teardown
• Awareness and adherence to equipment and worksite safety protocols
• Willingness to take initiative and work without direction to complete an objective.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Must be prepared for manual labour and to work outside in rain or shine.
• Familiarity with major and minor streets in the downtown core, location of TIFF designated hotels and Festival venues
• Required to handle assets and supplies in an ethical and confidential manner.
• Ability to work both independently and in a team environment
• Desire and ability to take initiative and coordinate projects
• Able to focus and handle changing information under pressure, and in a demanding environment in a calm, alert, and professional manner
• Willing to adjust work schedule as required to meet established deadlines including evenings and weekends
• Willingness and ability to take initiative to complete tasks and lend support to logistics and front of house teams without being directly instructed
• Being aware of surroundings for extended period of time while operating around vehicles, public, security needs, etc
• Providing service to several people, departments or venues
• Adhering to a predetermined schedule, while ensuring ad-hoc and ASAP requests are facilitated
• Maintaining focus, initiative, and positive attitude during busy periods, as well as periods of waiting
• Ability to work irregular hours (overnights or early mornings) as required.
• Ability to stand, bend and lift for long periods of time
• Ability to lift and carry between 10-35lbs for long periods of time
• Ability to support physical production build of Screening Venues and Festival Street / David Pecaut Square
