We are currently hiring for the position of:
SENIOR COPYWRITER
As Senior Copywriter, you will be responsible for developing original and compelling content, refining messaging strategies and ensuring consistency in brand voice and tone. Reporting to the Director, Marketing, you will oversee a team of writers and editors to produce copy for TIFF’s online channels (web, social, e-mail, creative, video and advertising) and in-person at TIFF Lightbox (in-cinema, digital signage).
Your primary focus will be to entertain, educate and inspire all TIFF stakeholders including Member and public audiences, creators, press and industry. In collaboration with cross-functional teams, you’ll be the voice of TIFF to showcase and support:
• Festival and year-round programming
• Revenue generation (ticket sales, retail and concessions)
• Development (Membership and fundraising)
• Corporate and media partners
• Industry (talent development, conference and marketplace)
RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Be the champion of TIFF’s Brand Voice Guidelines and Editorial Style Guide to ensure adherence to brand voice and inclusive language guidelines for internal and external teams
• Oversee the writing and editing of copy for all of TIFF’s audience-facing channels including:
• TIFF.net
• E-mails
• Advertising campaigns (print & digital)
• Video scripts and messaging
• Social Media
• Customer relations and wayfinding materials
• Programming essays, pitches and film notes
• Fundraising and development campaigns
• Media announcements and releases
• Speaker notes and comments for introductions and special events
• Work with the internal teams to prepare and manage all copy briefs and message-referencing documents to ensure articulate, accurate and consistent messaging on all outgoing TIFF materials
• Ensure thorough and effective collaboration and understanding of all messaging from Brand & Marketing team and other TIFF departments, including Programming, Loyalty & Engagement, Visitor Experience and Industry
• Monitor and maintain all internal copywriting and editing processes and identify challenges and solutions on ongoing basis
• Implement best practices, workflows, tools, and templates to maximize the effectiveness and efficiency of the publishing process
• Support the work and performance of two full-time year-round reports: Copywriter and Editor & Senior Coordinator
• Provide direction, coach, and mentor direct reports
• Manage additional seasonal staff as required during Festival period
JOB GRADE & SALARY:
• Job Grade 4
• $65,000 - $99,000
TARGET CONTRACT DATES:
• June 24 - December 31, 2024
WORK LOCATION:
• Office Location: 350 King Street West, Toronto, ON M5V 3X5
• Weekly in-office requirements:
• Minimum 2 days (October to May)
• Minimum 3 days (June to September)
• Festival Office Requirements: Full Time during Festival
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
• Bachelor’s degree or higher in journalism, film studies, media studies, communications, or related area of study
• Minimum 10 years of experience writing and editing for web, communication, and marketing channels at an agency or large organization
• At least 3 years of experience in a Managerial role with direct reports
• Previous experience working in entertainment and/or arts/culture is a strong asset
• Fluency in a second language considered an asset
SKILLS:
• Strong leadership skills, with experience managing a copywriting and editing team
• Excellent editorial judgement, including content direction and experience with inclusive-language guidelines
• Advanced skills at assigning, substantive editing, and copy editing
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• The ability to implement and uphold brand and editorial guidelines
• Knowledge of user-experience and SEO best practices
• Facility with both critical and promotional writing; familiarity with marketing and PR strategy and language is an asset
• Strong knowledge of film is a major asset
• Ability to multitask with frequent interruptions in a busy open-concept work environment
• Ability to respond to fast-changing priorities and deadlines
