We are the Literary Affairs Department for 20th Century Studios, Searchlight Pictures, and Walt Disney Studios, acting as the studios' eyes and ears in the publishing world. We seek out books both pre- and post-publication as well as other forms of IP such as articles, short stories, and podcasts to consider for film adaptation. Our department has helped acquire film rights to literary properties such as HIDDEN FIGURES, GONE GIRL, THE MARTIAN, and THE FAULT IN OUR STARS.
This is an opportunity to work closely with a small, close-knit team and learn the ins and outs of a niche and in-demand segment of the entertainment industry. We're looking for someone who can grow with the position and is interested in launching a film career. This position is located in New York, NY.
Responsibilities:
We are looking for a hyper-organized, detail-oriented, analytically-thinking office assistant to aid us in our day-to-day operations. Some of the position's primary tasks will include:
• Heavy data entry to manage our book database and log interactions with executives
• Write up daily book memos to be distributed to the various divisions
• Read a variety of manuscripts across all genres and give verbal feedback on their film potential
• Keep track of industry news and book reviews
• Assist the SVP in scheduling, expenses, etc.
• Answer phones and order office supplies, as required
Basic Qualifications:
• A minimum of one year as an assistant in the film or publishing industries or equivalent experience in a relevant internship
• Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and an ability to multitask
• A passion for books and movies
• An ability to think critically about content and articulate those thoughts succinctly and effectively
• A self-starter who can pro-actively contribute
Preferred Education
Bachelor's degree
