The A Side: A Day in The Life
Universal's global Legal & Business Affairs department in London provides a wide range of legal support across the UMG business.
The B Side: Skills & Experience
Be Knowledgeable
• Supporting the review and negotiation of commercial contracts, with a primary focus on services and IT agreements, including technology transactions, cloud computing and software services, outsourcing services, website and app development, reseller services, professional services, content licensing, property services, construction, real estate, and more
• Working closely with and providing legal oversight to the UMG procurement team based in EMEA and LA
• Drafting, negotiating, reviewing and advising on a wide variety of other commercial contracts, including artist recording and merchandise agreements/ licenses
• Advising on matters relating to UMG's involvement in TV talent shows globally
• Assisting on M&A deals and establishment of Joint Ventures and other commercial arrangements
• Assisting with competition law issues arising across the business, and advising on regulatory and other compliance matters
• Providing support on a range of queries and issues from UMG's legal teams globally
• Providing legal support and guidance to the company's commercial teams on a range of issues and new projects.
• Assisting with ownership queries and related tasks
Person Specification
Necessary
• An experienced and qualified lawyer with proven demonstrable track record in IT / technology contracts ideally from within a technology / digital content or entertainment business or legal practice
• Personable, strong attention to detail but able to work to strict deadlines
• Strong and proven negotiation and drafting skills
• Sound commercial sense and an ability to pragmatically balance legal risk with business objectives
• An eagerness to move outside of comfort zone into new areas of work
• A solid understanding of technology and technical product rights
Desirable
• Understanding of data privacy law and its application to third party supply contracts
• Experience working with a procurement function
