Coordinator, Music & Media Licensing (Freelance)
SUMMARY OF JOB:
Negotiate favorable rates and secure rights for material (music, film/tv clips, news and celebrity footage, photos and other media) included in projects produced by MTV East Coast and additional client groups as necessary. Send please issues, draft licenses and process all payments. Work closely and communicate regularly with production, production management, music supervisors and business and legal affairs. Record and track rights information for multiplatform programming.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Accommodate the needs of the client groups and any additional client groups, as deemed necessary.
Communicate information regarding music strat deals to clients as necessary, under supervision of senior management.
Negotiate licenses and permissions with copyright owners of music, film, TV, online content, books, photos, magazines, video games, record label content, artist management, etc.
Facilitate clearance requests by researching copyright ownership, preparing written requests to copyright owners and researching rights to pre-existing VMN material.
Draft, review and revise agreements to match negotiated terms.
Maintain contract files for all assigned projects and track relevant rights and restriction information.
Regularly report clearance costs to Production and Production Management via tracking reports and over the phone/via email. Suggest cost- and time-saving options and alternatives.
Ensure that licenses are requested, executed and paid in a timely manner. Follow up with vendors on outstanding licenses and supporting documentation.
Build and foster good working relationships with client groups, within the licensing community and throughout the Business and Legal Affairs department.
EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION/OTHER:
Minimum 2-3 years experience in television/music/entertainment in a business affairs, rights & clearances or licensing capacity.
Bachelor's degree and interest in pop culture and music across multiple genres preferred.
Must work in the NYC office.
