Studio Operations is comprised of multiple disciplines related to the postproduction of our films. This includes localizing formats for global theatrical release, ensuring consistency and continuity in the voice and representation of our characters in media formats worldwide, ensuring secure delivery of films to exhibitors, retailers, and homes worldwide, converting of classic film content into digital formats, and managing of all Walt Disney Studios production and postproduction facilities (including sound stages and the Digital Studio).
Disney Digital Studio Services (DDSS) provides on-lot post-production services to filmmakers and Walt Disney Company stakeholders. DDSS services include sound mixing, editorial rooms, theatre and screening room operations, as well as a broad array of finishing and mastering services in support of filmmakers and distribution.
We are looking for a Motion Graphics Designer to join our in-house localization team. If taking motion graphics designed in English and making it appear seamlessly designed in any language sounds intriguing, then this is the right job for you. The Title Artist should be technically knowledgeable of the basics of Compositing/CG, with expertise in their chosen motion graphics software package (After Effects, Cinema 4D, Nuke, etc.) The ideal candidate should be a generalist who enjoys creative problem solving. This is a challenging fast paced role with projects ranging worldwide day-and-date theatrical releases for Marvel to the global release of a Superbowl trailer. We receive project files from some of the largest VFX and Motion Graphics houses, and this role will appeal to someone who wants to look under the hood and see how the magic is made.
Our team localizes motion graphics for a wide array of studio content from Lucas, Marvel, Disney live-action, and Walt Disney Animation for international audiences. Our work is seen in all windows from Theatrical, Disney Originals, to Trailer Marketing. The Motion Graphics Designer should be technically proficient to dive into an existing English language motion graphic project, and be able to update it in the service of localization. Since our work is driven by the filmmaker's intent on the English language version, every single project will be different in look and execution, and leverage a wide variety of tools.
This position is a Title Artist – Daily, covered by the IATSE – Local 800. If not currently a member, you will be required to join the ADG after the first 30 working days of employment.
Responsibilities:
• Project Assessment:
• Work with artists from other disciplines to formulate a plan of attack across our three disciplines of TYPE, CG and COMP.
• Take an existing English language file and set up a template from this base to localize up to 18 (or more languages) with it.
• May require some level of re-engineering the original file to make it possible to be plug and play for other language versions.
• Day to day shots:
• Setup and render localized versions of your elements.
• Identify when creative intent may not work in another language and provide alternative looks that could solve the issue while maintaining the essence of original creative intent.
• Organize your outputs to match our pipeline/workflow so that elements can be shared easily between artists and delivered to client.
• Work with the Associate Project Manager and Sr. Manager to manage time and hit milestones.
• Enter shot information into shared team trackers
• Process Improvement & Innovation:
• Identify opportunities to improve existing workflows/systems and understand new technologies that we can leverage to be the most effective.
• Work with the DMC Engineering team to troubleshoot software issues, and validate that your workstation is working optimally
• Ad Hoc:
• Participate in Creative for special DDSS projects ranging for internal marketing.
• Aid partner teams with VFX or graphics needs, ranging from VFX paint out for catalogue title fixes to censorship updates.
Basic Qualifications:
• Language fluency in a non-English language is not required, but please be interested in learning how motion graphics are executed in non-English languages
• Strong understanding of the VFX / Title Design process and technical delivery requirements
• Proficiency in After Effects and/or Cinema 4D
• Some experience with illustrator or Nuke would be a bonus
• Able to interface with clients as needed, and sit in on calls with other vendors to optimize project collects and hand overs
• Equivalent work experience or college degree in the fields of Graphic Design, Media, Cinema, or Post Production
