Job Title: Paralegal, Legal & Business Affairs
Location: Los Angeles, CA
Position Summary:
Warner Chappell Music is seeking a Paralegal to support the Legal & Business Affairs team, playing a key role in managing legal documents, performing research, and assisting with contract negotiations related to music publishing and copyright enforcement.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Draft and review contracts, including publishing administration agreements, sound recording representation agreements, and amendments
• Prepare daily department documents such as cease and desist letters, PRO membership amendments, and quitclaim reassignment documents for composition reversions
• Conduct and document legal research on U.S. legal topics and unexploited composition reversion notices
• Handle third-party letters of direction, non-disclosure agreements, and option exercise letters
• Assist in due diligence for copyright acquisitions and support research projects
• Organize and document team meetings, prioritize action items, and support the Legal & Business Affairs team with administrative tasks
• Assist with presentations for meetings and review internal client account balance inquiries
Essential Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
• Minimum 2 years of paralegal experience, preferably in a law firm or in-house legal department within the music industry
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
• Ability to handle confidential information with discretion
• Excellent written and oral communication skills
• Ability to multitask and prioritize multiple assignments
• Conduct yourself in a professional manner with sound judgment
Preferred Qualifications:
• Paralegal certification preferred
• Familiarity with music publishing, copyright law, and intellectual property rights
• Strong research and analytical skills
• Proficiency in drafting legal documents and using Microsoft Excel, Word, and Google Workspace
Salary Range:
• $35.89 - $38.46/hourly
Work Environment:
• In-office requirement: 4 days per week, effective October 1, 2023
