Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Administrative Tasks:
• Compile daily media clips on weekdays and during weekend homestands
• Distribute press materials via email, the Curly W Live blog and @NationalsComms X account
• Serve as the primary contact for media credential and parking requests
• Manage the department's administrative tasks, including subscription services, invoices, etc.
• Build, update and maintain press lists
• Maintain department calendar
• Assist with the recruitment, training and development of seasonal associates
Communications Responsibilities:
• Write press materials and media pitches as needed
• With the Corporate Communications Associate, assemble and format coverage recaps for campaigns and full season
• Assist Corporate Communications with VIP and media escorting as needed
• Assist Corporate Communications with VIP and media escorting as needed
• Assist Baseball Communications with game notes, press releases, media guide and player development content
• Work with Baseball Communications Associates on press box setup and credential will call
• Assist with events, including annual media tour, Opening Day morning media, D.C. Sports Hall of Fame, Heroes Day, etc.
• Other duties as assigned
Requirements:
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent military experience
• Minimum of one year experience in public relations with a sports organization, preferably MLB
• Successfully pass a background investigation
• Ability to work nights, weekends and select holidays
• Authorized to work in the United States
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities necessary to perform essential functions
• Must be detail-oriented with excellent communication, organization, writing and editing skills, including familiarity with AP Style
• Must have a strong working knowledge of baseball
• Familiarity with social media platforms and emerging outlets is preferred
• Functional knowledge of desktop publishing software such as Adobe InDesign
• Experience using Major League Baseball's credential system; as well as MLB Research Tool, StatsPass.com and BaseballReference.com is preferred
• Bilingual in Spanish and English preferred, but not required.
Physical/Environmental Requirements
• Office: Working conditions are normal for an office environment. Position will require weekend and evening work.
• Gameday: Job requires employee to function in a high activity and heavily crowded outdoor professional sports venue. May work at heights. Employee will be exposed to inclement weather of varying degrees. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand for long periods of time, walk long distances, and climb up/down stairs. The employee is required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or sit and must lift and/or move up to 45 pounds.
Compensation:
The projected wage rate for this position is $19.83 - $26.44. Actual pay is based on several factors, including but not limited to the applicant's: qualifications, skills, expertise, education/training, certifications, and other organization requirements. Starting salaries for new employees are frequently not at the top of the applicable salary range.
