A little about us!
The WNBA Chicago Sky is a professional basketball team, which is part of the Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA) –the longest running female professional sports league in the world. It started its first season in 2006, the Chicago Sky became the first independently owned WNBA team in the country. The team's Principal Owner, Michael Alter, is a Chicago native and President of the Alter Group, one of the country's largest private commercial real estate development companies.
The mission of the Chicago Sky is to enrich the lives of the Chicagoland community by providing competitive, world-class basketball combined with a drive to inspire people to believe in redefining what is possible.
About the internship!
The program is committed to curating introductory opportunities and exposure to the sports and entertainment business within a WNBA front office by engaging in hands-on opportunities within specialized departments. Interns will develop sports business acumen, gain exposure within a WNBA franchise, grow their professional network, and meaningfully contribute to the organization and brand's growth.
Our offices are located at McCormick Place, 230 S. Lake Shore Drive, Chicago, IL and our games are played at the Wintrust Arena located at 200 E Cermak Rd., Chicago, IL 60616. You can drive (park for free), take the bus, or take the train to both locations. You are responsible for transportation to and from work.
Qualifications for the Chicago Sky Foundation Intern
• Education & Experience
• Open to current college students, recent graduates, or individuals looking to gain experience in sports, nonprofit, or community engagement.
• A strong interest in sports, nonprofits, marketing, social media, community engagement, event planning, or fundraising.
• Previous experience in social media management, community outreach, event coordination, or administrative support is a plus but not required.
• Technical & Digital Skills
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook) for data tracking, presentations, and administrative tasks.
• Familiarity with social media platforms (Instagram, LinkedIn, Twitter, TikTok, Facebook) and experience creating digital content or managing accounts.
• Basic knowledge of graphic design tools (Canva, Adobe Suite, or similar) for content creation is a plus.
• Experience or willingness to learn AI tools, digital analytics, and website updates to support engagement and outreach efforts.
• Organizational & Communication Skills
• Ability to multitask and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to craft emails, social media posts, and community impact reports.
• Comfortable working independently and collaborating with a team to execute projects.
• Strong attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and ability to adapt to changing priorities.
• Community Engagement & Event Support
• Passion for serving the community and supporting nonprofit initiatives through the Chicago Sky Foundation.
• Willingness to engage with fans, community partners, and event attendees as a brand ambassador.
• Ability to work non-standard hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays, as needed for games and community events.
• Professionalism & Work Ethic
• Self-motivated and eager to learn about the sports and nonprofit industries.

• Reliable, punctual, and professional in all interactions with partners, fans, and colleagues.
Digital & Social Media Responsibilities
• Assist in managing the Chicago Sky Foundation's LinkedIn, Instagram, and other social media accounts, creating engaging content that highlights community impact.
• Monitor and analyze social media engagement metrics to track audience reach and identify ways to enhance engagement.
• Develop content ideas for Chicago Sky Foundation initiatives, including player appearances, community events, and fundraising campaigns.
• Create graphics, videos, and promotional materials using Canva, Adobe Suite, or other design tools (if applicable).
• Draft and schedule social media posts to align with Chicago Sky's branding and messaging.
• Engage with followers by responding to comments, messages, and mentions on social media platforms.
• Support website content updates to ensure accurate and engaging representation of the Chicago Sky Foundation's work.
• Research digital trends and nonprofit marketing strategies to improve the Foundation's online presence and storytelling.
